I have been a practicing freelance artist for almost 20 years.
During the covid pandemic of 2020 I was presented with an interesting idea, by an old friend from childhood, to come and fill in for a mutual elderly art teacher friend, who had to retire at the last second before the school year began, for health reasons. I'd had no formal teaching background at that point in my career, but the idea was a fun one. So, for the last four years I have been teaching high school students how to digital paint and design things in photoshop, along with some facts about commercial art, drawing & photography. It wasn't something I was planning on doing, but I've come to love teaching enough to stay.
Cannonball is a wind instruments manufacturer in Salt Lake City, specializing in high end saxophones and flutes. Their brand has both a medieval theme and an emphasis on designing horns in an old-fashioned, classical way. This means that they employ a lot of artists to design art and engrave it (by hand, no electric tools) onto their instruments. At Cannonball, I was responsible for most of the design work for their 'premium engravings' line, and I personally engraved several hundred saxophones for them. I also occasionally travelled to Japan and did art/engraving demos for their clients there.
I assisted the executives from Wacom's American HQ by attending their meetings with business owners, university faculty members and other creative professionals, doing art demos and consultations of the hardware (with an emphasis on how I use it as an illustrator in my own work).
